 Whether you have lost one tooth or many teeth, we are here to help. Bagley Dental offers several tooth replacement treatments, including dentures and partials. Dentures and partials are replacements for missing teeth that are removable, natural looking, and more comfortable than ever before.
Full Dentures
Full dentures consist of a flesh-colored acrylic base that fits over your gums. The base holds a full arch of prosthetic teeth. We may recommend a full denture if you have lost all of your teeth or only have a few remaining teeth left.
To receive a full denture, we must first remove any remaining teeth. Once you have healed from the extractions, we will make a series of impressions of your jaw and gums. We use these impressions to create a model that will be assessed for color, shape, and fit. Next, we will send the model to the laboratory, where they will fabricate your final denture using the best materials modern dentistry has to offer. Once the denture is complete, we will make any final adjustments to ensure there is a proper fit.
Partial Dentures
Removable partial dentures are used to replace one or more adjacent teeth. Most partial dentures rely on a metal framework that attaches to your natural teeth, typically clasps. In some instances, a partial can be held in place by dental crowns. Partials are considered to be an effective alternative to traditional bridges.
Besides filling the gap created by a missing tooth, a partial will restore your ability to chew food properly. They can also help eliminate a speech impediment caused by a missing tooth. In some cases, a partial can also support your cheeks and lips to prevent facial sagging.
Caring for Your Full Denture
When handling your full denture, be sure to exercise caution. Full dentures are delicate and can break easily if dropped. We recommend standing over a basin of water or folded a towel.
You should also be sure never to let your denture dry out. This can cause the denture to crack or become brittle. Place your denture into a cleanser soaking solution at night or when you’re not wearing them.
Before you reinsert your denture, be sure to brush your gums, tongue, and palate with a soft-bristled toothbrush. This will remove plaque and bacteria, keeping your gums healthy and free of infection.
If your denture breaks or begins to feel loose, be sure to schedule an appointment with us as soon as possible. Do not attempt to adjust it yourself as you may cause irreversible damage.
Caring for Your Partial Denture
Caring for a partial denture is similar to caring for a full denture. However, you need to brush your natural teeth at least twice a day, especially the anchor teeth that hold your restoration in place. We can show you how to properly brush and clean your teeth if necessary. Your partial denture may also loosen or need adjustments. Again, do not attempt to do this yourself. Instead, schedule an appointment with us. We may even be able to fix your partial the same day.
